Do I Need To Have A Design Before I Contact A Home Builder?

If you’re thinking about contacting a home builder or construction company, that means you’re looking for something new, be it a remodeled version of your current home or a brand new home. A question that often lingers on the mind of current and prospective homeowners is whether or not they should have a rough design in mind before contacting a builder.

The truth is, different builders will want different things, but at Eagle Construction & Remodeling, the answer is no!

Typically, there are a few things you’ll want to consider when thinking about what you want to consider for your home. Those things are your wants and needs, your property and your budget.

Your Wants And Needs

When sitting down with a builder, you’ll want to be clear about the features you want in your home, even if you’re unsure of the specifics. How many bedrooms do you want in your home? This number is important because it might need to allow for an expansion of your family or a guest room for when you have company. The same can be said for bathrooms.

You also might want a fireplace, a deck or hardscapes outside. It’s important that you try and come up with a list of features that you’re interested in, even if you’re unsure if you’ll follow through with them long-term.

Your Property

You may have purchased property already, or you may be looking for renovations on an existing home. You might also be looking to purchase property to build a brand new home. All of these factors are important, as they will play a role in your overall happiness. Some aspects you’d like in a home might not be feasible due to your location, or certain features of renovations may cost more because of terrain or environmental features in the area. Be sure to discuss the location of your existing or soon-to-be home with the builder so you can find a solution that works best for your home.

Your Budget

Your budget is another factor you’ll want to be open about in initial talks with your builder (hopefully us!). Your wants for your home may not match up with your budget, so your contractor will be able to tell you if you should adjust your budget or change up plans for your home. An open line of communication is crucial to any home improvement contractor, as they more both parties communicate, the better the result will be.
